Aruba: One Happy Island! a photo-essay by Monique Rider |
| Aruba's consistent temperature allows visitors to enjoy the many open air restaurants within the resorts and downtown. Aruba does not broadcast a local weather report because it is always in the mid 80s, sunny, and windy. It is one of few Caribbean islands located outside of the hurricane belt, so there is almost never a threat of rain or bad weather. |
| Aruba's capital, Oranjestad, is only minutes south of the resorts. Downtown Oranjestad is clean, safe and the locals are the friendliest, happiest people you'll ever meet. The island motto is: One Happy Island!. There are many shops, restaurants and a mall - each with open air walkways. Throughout downtown you'll also notice multi-colored buildings and windmills, typical of the Dutch heritage. |
| Our second time in Aruba we stayed at the Wyndham Resort on the north side of the island. Just seconds from the resort's pool area is the beach where visitors can enjoy tubing, snorkeling, boating, or just relaxing under a grass hut. |
| Parasailing is one of the many water sports that is a "must try" in Aruba. The constant tradewinds create an exhilarating trip into the sky! |
Outside of the resorts is a rugged area of Aruba that is best accessed
by jeep. Aruba is only 6 miles wide and 20 miles long. It's impossible
to get lost so do venture to the eastern coast of the island
and view this natural wonder. The Natural Footbridge was created by
the wind and water - Mother Nature at her finest!
| The western coast of Aruba consists of rocky, isolated desert that has many ruins. These are gold mine ruins that can be explored by visitors - but at your own risk. |
| Mountains of rock and boulder overlook the coastlines and inland areas of Aruba. Great for rock climbing, again at your own risk. |
The jagged, rugged coastline of Aruba is
beautifully formed by harsh waves and wind. This magical
island seems like the perfect spot for a wonderful holiday, don't you
think?
