The Virtual Postcard tour continues...
The Postcard World Tour: by the Phantom When my friends travel, they send me postcards. I remind them to do that when they start up with their pre-trip conversations about the wonderful, exotic, expensive, longish vacations they are planning. These days most of my traveling is of the armchair variety, but I do have an extensive collection of those old postcards I've received, and yes, saved for years and years. Here are some of my favorites. I picked out the ones that appeal to me the most, so if I were planning to go on an extended world tour, I would definitely include the following sites. |
![]() Shakespeare & Co. Bookstore, Paris. I never bring enough books with me. |
![]() Overlooking Firenze. Everybody loves Italy, Who wouldn't? Without a doubt, it has to be one of the most beautiful countries on earth. |
![]() Hungry? Doesn't this Granada restaurant look inviting? Let's stop here for a long, lazy lunch, write a few postcards to our friends at home and then meander through this lovely city. |
![]() Of course I want to hop into a tour boat and cruise down a canal in Amsterdam. What a great way to see all that amazing architecture. |
![]() This 100 year old postcard says "Nurnberg" on the back so I'm assuming that it's an old painted postcard of Nuremburg, Germany. Wouldn't it be fun to find this bridge and stroll across it? |
![]() There are hundreds of wonderful places to visit in Europe, but eventually we must move on. How about a quick side trip to Egypt? We would ride a camel and gawk at the pyramids. No self-respecting world traveler would leave out traveling via the ships of the desert. |
![]() Then on to Australia. Why not get some tickets to whatever is playing at the Sidney Opera House. Could be fun, right? |
![]() I believe it's Tea Time, but not in England. Let's go to Japan for tea this time. Why not? This is a Tea-Arbor somewhere in Japan. Very inviting, maybe we'll have green tea while we're at it, because we know it's so good for us. |
![]() No trip would be complete for me without a quick stop in Victoria, British Columbia, one of my most favorite world cities. And speaking of tea, where better than the world famous Empress Hotel, looking over this very harbor. |
I've left out hundreds of postcard possibilities. There are so many places and so little time, right? But my world tour would definitely include these, and a great many more. We'll do the next chapter very soon. |
