The Phantom's virtual postcard tour continues! |

![]() We'll fly from Alaska to Hawaii. Or we could take a cruise ship. That sounds like fun too! In the good old days, cruise ships regularly docked at the Aloha Tower in Honolulu Harbor to offload tourists. Nowadays, cruise ships once again ply the Hawaiian waters, steaming from island to island but somehow it's not quite the same. |

I have so many beautiful postcards of
Hawaii, it's hard to choose. These cards are circa the 1960s. The left one
is of Oahu's most famous landmark, Diamond Head crater. The palm trees,
its most romantic trademark.
The postcard on the right features one of the most exotic plants in Hawaii -- "The Haleakala Silversword, protected in Haleakala National Park, is native only to Haleakala Volcano. It blooms only once, produces seeds, and dies when from 7 to 20 or more years old. Other species of silversword grow on West Maui and on the island of Hawaii." |

![]() And here's another trademark of the islands: hula dancers. One of the reasons why Hawaii is so special is because of its reverence for its culture and history. The music, the dance, the language, the stories are all meaningful reminders of the way things were at one time, not so many years ago. FYI: Clever has archived travel-related articles on Hawaii.
