Oatmeal Cookies

by Paul Molyneux

Who cares about propriety,
Acceptance by society.
Don’t need truffles or parfait.
Plain oatmeal cookies make my day.

Now, cakes are fine. They rate quite high.
It’s hard to beat a homemade pie.
But the taste that thrills both pros and rookies
Is that of homemade oatmeal cookies.

There’s lots of food that makes me drool;
Turn my head; make me act a fool.
But one, for sure, won’t go to waste
¾
That’s chewy cookies with an oatmeal taste.

One spring day when I cut school
The teacher made me quite the fool.
All she did to end my hooky
Was follow crumbs of oatmeal cookie.

It’s for sure that, up in heaven,
I won’t need an ounce of leaven,
But it’s safe to call your bookies
And place your bet on oatmeal cookies.
