Home Cooking
by John T. Baker
What's for dinner?

I little care now what I eat,
Most any fare will do,
But certain dishes I delete;
Just let me list a few.

I'm not too fond of fish and cheese,
Sweetbreads I rarely touch;
No fancy vittles, if you please,
Like truffles, quiche and such.

Lasagna I can live without,
I can't stand herbal tea,
And sushi I am not about
To put inside of me.

Too spicy Oriental food
I readily bypass;
For oysters I'm not in the mood,
Cucumbers give me gas.

Sometimes what pleasures other folks
Are things from which I flee;
For instance, figs and artichokes --
Anathema to me!

Hot dogs don't tempt me on the grill,
Burritos give me fits . . .
But I just never get my fill
Of good old Southern grits.
