Lasik's a piece of cake By Judith E. Thomas Editor's note: Judy has worn glasses nearly all her life and really wanted to try the new lasik procedure, but like many of us, she was apprehensive. She finally did it and here is her report. It went well and now for the first time in years, she can throw away those eyeglasses. Well, except when she goes outside, and when she wants to read the fine print. |

One of my horrible fears was that I would find it very difficult to read after the surgery. Right now on day 2, my vision is 20/40 and is supposed to get better. One eye is slightly swollen and both are a bit tired, but I did not suffer near as much discomfort as Garren did. His eyesight was quite a bit worse than mine. My vision will change over time, however, and I know I will be investing in some dime store reading glasses, but not for a few weeks, I think. The vision is supposed to take some weeks to normalize. Sure enough, some strong light sensitivity set in after Garren picked me up. By the time we had lunch and I hit the bed, it was pretty bothersome, but the tranquilizer that they had given me before the surgery kicked it to allow me to sleep it off. A few hours later I woke up and all was fine. I am wearing regular sunglasses, some shields at night so that nothing bumps my eyes, and I may wear some clear safety glasses if I go out tonight in the wind. 4 drops of anti-biotic a day for a week and that's it! I was so very worried...didn't want to mess with whatever I have left that still works! |
